An Assistant Professor at the Department of Architectural Science at Ryerson University, Cheryl Atkinson has taught at the University of Toronto and the University of Waterloo and has been a visiting critic at Michigan State University, McGill University, and the State University of New York in Buffalo.

Her focus in practice and research is in the relationship of built form and site, and the role of architecture in the creation of public space.

She is a core team member of the Research Collaborative at the Facility Design and Health Research Group at Bridgepoint Hospital in Toronto examining the role of design and environment to health and well-being in new chronic care facility design.
